I've done the mod that was posted a few days ago and if anything it has
made
me get a worse signal close to the AP, I haven't tested it for range after
the mod but I will try tonight and tell you what has happened in my case.

A range test would be excellent, I have the Linksys AP also, so even
better.
Have you done the Modification to the AP to increase the signal strength?
