Actually, I think youve solved my problem. My ha pc is now based on a

eden mobo, which has tv out. So I could use bob2 for overlay
announcements,
and just use a switcher (KAT5???) to display the tv output of the eden
mobo
when required. I'll have to revisit the bob2 option.

I have used BOB2 in the past,  simple serial control and has the
advantage of not taking over the HA server's screen.  Disadvantage
is
that it is only text overlay, looks a bit like the text from a BBC B
....but there's nothing wrong with that!
