Didn't you say it had a PIC on it now ? If it does it might be an
idea
to bring out to a suitable header 4 spare PIC I/O. This would
allow
someone to control it via a serial stream TX, RX, CLK and perhaps
another spare I/O as an ENABLE just to be safe.
Not suggesting you write an PIC code to support it of course :-)
