If you download music, or rip from cddb without any checking, then yes,
your
tags *can* contain rubbish. Other than that, they work fine.

MP3 Tag Studio from http://www.magnusbrading.com/mp3ts

is great.
I have routinely used to to tag and rename several thousand MP3s at once.
(about 220Gb worth in total)
