RE: [OT] Baby monitor picking up "hum"

It's supposed to be re-chargeable but both the Tx & Rx stopped working
"on
batteries" some time ago so the power cord is the only option :-(

I will try different channels (I'd forgot about that !).

We're fairly limited in where we can place the Tx unit - basically a 1m
radius from the only (accessible) power point in the bedroom. I will try
it
on the window ledge etc though. 

Your experience with your neighbours reminds me of someone I knew that
left
theirs on when they had prospective buyers looking at their property.
Thinking they were out of earshot, the buyers discussed what they did
&
didn't like, the Vendors then oh so casually reinforced / glossed over
the
good & bad as appropriate !! He swears it was all by accident. Not sure
I'd
buy a used car from him though :-D

We had a strange situation where the people across the road bought a

baby monitor, the same as ours. One evening I thought my son was

his head off (just checked on him and was fast asleep). Went running up
stairs to find him still asleep, crying had stopped. Went downstairs -
screaming, then I heard a male voice calming the screaming child down.

mentioned the babies name in a soothing tone, a little girl's name. It

then we realised we were picking up the people over the roads baby (and
parents at times). Most disconcerting in the middle of the night when
you
hear a baby screaming that's not yours!!!! 

We played channel tag each night, pick which ever one the people over
the
road weren't using....... (they weren't all that friendly so couldn't
come
to an arrangement).

Anyway try the above if you haven't already......

OK, so not strictly an HA application, but one that's been bugging me for

We've got a "Tomy" baby monitor which has started to broadcast
unwanted
noise from the receiver, an electrical "hum". We've changed the
wall-wart as
that appeared to have a different fault and it now seems a bit worse.
There's approx 1m of cable between the wall-wart and the receiver,
terminating in a centre-positive-type jack plug.

Would one of these clamp on magnets stop the hum being picked up ? (like
the
things you see on monitor cables etc.)

The hum is most noticeable at night (when the house is quiet) and the
monitor is not placed near *lots* of mains cabling, although it is
plugged
into the wall.

Any thoughts ?
