just the way... struggle for weeks, then "pop" inspiration just as I
posted..

I was misjudging just how accurate the GPS coordinates were..

the landranger reference I quoted (for my mate's house) was acually NS658678

The GPS is providing the sub-grid coordinates down to a 1/1000th rather than
1/100th, so it's 5+5 rather than 3+3

but thanks for the inspiration anyway!

Ian.

again, turning to the group for lack of knowing where else to look...

I have a Garmin etrex, and it works fine with Autoroute, point perfect
navigation, however, I am trying to get it to tell me where I am right now,
in landranger coordinates.

I have set the GPS for the Ordnance Survey GB datum (also tried the WGS 84
datum), and told it to use British Grid formatting.

when I add a waypoint however, the reference it gives me is (for example)
NS65881 I also get a second number: BNG67824 I don't know what that number
is?

NS is certainly on the right sheet, but there are only five digits, and
landranger refernces need six!

any ideas why this is happening?

Ian./
