always thought the smarts for special offers etc was in the POS systems,
not
the barcodes..
certainly, I know for long enough, the code on a multipack can of
diet
coke was no different from the normal one..
(now, ironically enough, the multipack cans don't even *have* a
code)

The problem with that is they will change
frequently depending on offers etc eg Cans marked 50% extra or 3 for 2 will
have differnt codes on them.
That is why I proposed learning the code against
the type of product. If you are more demanding you could have
Heinz_Beans = Beans for
Parents
Asda, Smartprice, Value, Economy = Crap beans for
Kids
If
you want it to perform automatic ordering you would need datafeeds from the
suppliers with all current barcodes etc.
I
am just trying to simplify the creation of the shopping list and avoid the
situation where I have enough Shampoo and Shower gel for the whole of
Norfolk but dont have a single Bog Roll in the house.

have access to a list of supermarket barcodes, as these
probably won't
be listed anywhere, for example own brand products.
As is mentioned
below, there may be a possibility of developing an
database of products
that don't already exist in current barcode
lists.
