Chaps,

Today I finally got fed up enough with not being able to access Yahoo
because I'd "forgotten" my yahoo groups ID details, that I
resolved to sort
it out once and for all...

For anyone else who wants to do the same, you might find these tips
usefull....

first off, forget any prospect of trying to recover your ID details from
Yahoo's interminable "mail me my password" service, as if you
have forgotten
both your Yahoo ID *and* your password, you'll go round in circles for
hours
before giving up in disgust. - Just bite the bullet and sign up again from
scratch.

the hardest part of this will be trying to find a Yahoo ID name that isn't
already taken. - forget any prospect of trying to get an ID that is even
close to being meaningful (Unless your name is "Tarquin
fin-tin-lim-bim-bim-bim-bim-bim-bustop-f'tang-f'tang-ole-biscuit-barrel"
that is). I tried dozens of seemingly random phrases as ID's including:
"Ihateyahoo"
"Yahoosucks"
"comeandgetitlikeabitchfunkysexmachine"
"blowmeyoubitch"
"forfucksake"
as well as every conceivable variation of my name, and my street name, my
Wife's name, my favoutite food, my inside leg measurement, - you get the
picture...

As you go round the mill trying to find one, Yahoo will offer you
variations
of what you've entered that are available, - usually just by tacking a
bunch
of numbers on the end... take my advice, - just take one of the Yahoo
sugested alternatives...

Use the *SAME* e-mail address as the primary address that you previously
used for your "lost" ID. - wait for the confirmation email to
arrive at that
mailbox, and validate it. (it took about an hour for the confirmation email
to get to me from Yahoo).

Once this is done, your new Yahoo ID will be activated and useable. Now
comes the good bit... - at this point you will not be a member of any
egroups, so attempt to sign up for any one of the groups that you are
already subscribed to with your old ID... Yahoo will complan at this point
because the email address you are trying to subscribe with is ALREADY
subscribed to that group. There is a link that you can then select that
will
search yahoo groups for that registered email address, - select it.

Yahoo will then display a list of all the egroups that the email address is
subscribed to (in my case about a dozen), and even better will allow you to
re-associate those egroup subscriptions to the new Yahoo ID you've just
created, - so no having to resubscribe!

Reassociate them and bingo, - you're in like Flynn....

HURRAH!! (at last!)

Paul G.
