There are several e.g. pwm, rc5, space modulated to name a few. Most
controllers can learn most of these. IR data is sometimes moved between A
and B using a protocol and then decoded prior to transmission. Look for
unidentified boxes with chips in at the end. If there is only an IR LED
then
it is raw data.

It makes sense but I have no idea.

The best thing is to gat a scope on the matter. There is no 'real' standard
I know of for transmission (i.e. voltages etc.) and it all depends on the
manufacturer.
