In anticipation of the arrival of the Fujitsu, I spent last night experimenting with setting up a basic network at home, between my pc and laptop with a crossover cable.

Got most of it going fine using ICS, however just one hitch, how do I get the client machine (the laptop) to initiate an internet connection? It seems that it is reliant upon whether the main machine is connected to the internet or not, unfortunately as I live in the back of beyond I do not have access to anything more than a basic dialup, so permanent connection is not an option.

The question is how can I get the laptop to initiate the dial up? If I can do this I will be tempted to run more cat5 around the house or to go wireless, however if I have to keep returning to my study to connect to the internet it will somewhat defeat the purpose and certainly fail SWMBO approval.

Any suggestion gratefully received..

Thanks

James
