That card is a Rage Fury. TV Out. No Inputs on that model.

 

The machine also has a Haupaugge Win TV Tuner card for which the inputs work OK.

 

My Workshop PC has an ATI All In Wonder Pro and that works fine for input and output.

 

If you are getting "static" you are getting the Tuner input. A Composie or S-Video input should give either a black or blue screen. I am using Win98SE on all my PC's (Currently none are really man enough for Win2K).

Keith have you got the compostie input working with the ati software?

If the TV doesnt support S-Video there is no point using the S-Video out. If you used it straight you would get a B&W picture, if you use a passive combiner it wont be any better than what you currently have.

 

The quality of the TV affects the image as well, cheaper TV's dont have such high quality tubes and the shadowmask is not as fine as a high end TV. (Think of it as similar to the dot pitch on a monitor). The tube may simply not have the resolution. What size is the TV?

 

If the TV does RGB you MAY be able to get an RGB output from the VGA socket.

 

When I choose TV mode on my ATI Rage Fury the Sony Monitor drops back to an interlaced 50 Hz picture just like a TV needs. There is an option to output Composite Sync from the VGA port as well.

 

Its one of those things I keep meaning to try but havent got round to yet :-(

If the TV Scart does S-video then it should be much better. I have an
old P233 PC next to our TV for my daughter to play games on and the S-
video picture is a lot sharper than the composite.

Scart is just a plug. It can carry composite, RGB, S-video and
combinations thereof, in both directions.

I think that if the TV only does RGB and composite you will get a B&W
picture.
