I have also a problem, but it's not a problem really.
Last night, I started playing with my AP about midnight. I have wired LAN, so I plugged AP into switch and installed SNMP config utility. And read manual which was a bit confusing and suggesting to set subnet mask the same like on wired LAN and keep IP address outside.
Didn't have sense but I followed instructions and, of course, didn't work. I was tired, and went to bed.
Today, I downloaded manual from their site, and this one has more sense.
I suppose that Doug has the same configuration like me. He got AP and card (not cards), so I suppose that he wants to connect AP to his wired LAN.
There are two tools to configure AP, USB and SNMP. I prefer SNMP because I don't have to bring PC for configuring AP within the range of USB cable.
Especially, if AP is mounted somewhere high and cable is 1.5m only.
So I installed SNMP util and it should find AP, but it can't.
On my network I have server with ADSL modem and ICS. ICS works in a way that machine where it runs becomes a small DHCP server, that machine automatically gets IP address 192.168.0.1. and subnet mask 255.255.255.0.
Therefore, all the machines on my LAN must be within that subnet. They should be DHCP enabled and ICS machine will assign them IP address from the pool 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.254.
By default, AP has IP address 192.168.1.250 and that's why my laptop cannot talk to it and AP cannot be found.
What I plan to do is:
Change my laptop IP settings from DHCP enabled to static 192.168.1.251 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0.
Then it should be able to find AP. Then change settings of AP, from static address to DHCP enabled.
When AP reboots, it should obtain IP address from DHCP server (ICS machine) and become a member of my subnet.
My laptop settings could be moved back to DHCP enabled.
I'm pretty sure that it will work then.

Doug, does this have sense to you?
Regards,
Nik

Doug,

First don't worry, the kit is from first line distributors if its duff
it will get replaced, when Mark and I got our AP (from the same source)
Mark's AP was DOA, they replaced it no problems. With the amount of kit
we got I expect to get some DOA

Expect to see the AP's light flash very fast say about 15Hz. Do you have
a wireless phone in the house ? If so this may be making the lamp flash,
but don't worry they can co exist together no problem.

On your card there are two LED's, if the card is up you should see one
green led all the time the other should flash as data is transferred.

Double check the AP setup on USB When you boot your laptop (I assume
it's a laptop) watch the LED's on the card you should get one green then
after a few seconds you get a burst of data this is your laptop getting
its ip, then login. Go to command prompt and do ipconfig /all check to
see what ip address you have been given if its in the range of your
network it looks like they are talking. Also try from the laptop a
search for computer, but enter the ip address not the name of a pc on
your lan.

Does your card see the AP ? If yes can you ping a address on your lan ?
Setup a share on your lan and try to connect to it ?

Try this and report back your findings, also what OS is on your lan and
your laptop.

You can ring me at home in the morning between 8:00 and 9:30 my number
was posted on habuy. After 9:30 try my mobile it can be found on the
invoice note the code in now 07973. You could also try me at one of my
customers after about 10:30 01274 777 666 no problem receiving calls.

John
