It's about time!

The SCART socket is a travesty of design, a great idea gone septic...

...I even asked Keith whether he could design into the KAT5 a hole drilled in the PCB behind the SCART socket so that we could at least loop a cabletie through to hold the bloody things in!

For those who have recently questioned my background and whether I know what I'm talking about I have worked for a couple of years in industrial process control (including underwater oil storage monitoring), for five years in professional video and computer graphics applications and for six years in multimedia and audio which has involved large amounts of studio work and culminating in my running my old companies recording studios. In all that time quality and reliability of connections has been paramount to the result that just handling SCARTs makes me shudder!

<<Hell, anything that locks would be better than using just the friction of pressed metal contacts to hold the weight of a 21 conductor cable!>>

I read in Which! recently that Sky have produced a Scart plug that does lock!  Apparently they take more fault calls because of Scart leads than anything else so they've done something about.  Four metal lugs lock it, although removing it is possible it's a bit of a struggle apparently.  Should be on sale in Comet and Dixons this month.  There's even a picture of a video being suspended by the Scart cable!

Could be worth a look!
