The congested bandwidth argument doesn't apply to RF as whole. To the 2.4 GHz range, yes, but not to RF as a whole.
 
Cat5 is great but not always practical. Most houses in the UK only have wireless systems as an option because laying cable is impossible or very unsightly. On this point, why don't all new homes come with Cat5 prewired? It's shockingly simple and so cheap.
 
Just a quick aside, why does no-one use the privacy argument with DECT handsets but always does with wireless LANs?

I refer to many previous postings extolling the virtues of CAT5 cable over RF connectivity.
 
RF's major benefit is No cable required but the devices need to obtain power from somewhere either expensive batteries or mains power via a cable.
 
RF's major drawbacks......
Congested bandwidth
lack of privacy
susceptible to interference.
 
Get the CAT5 cable installed and use WIRED solutions.
