RE: [OTish] Electronics (for HA)
Hi David,
I must admit that I only used it a few time before I bought Proteus to
do
proper PCB's.
It isnt perfect and on a few occasions I actually crashed it. Like you,
I
couldnt find a way to place things EXACTLY where I wanted them but my
main
purpose for using it was to document layouts. By saving the image and
then
doctoring it in Paint Shop Pro I could get a really good picture to save
as
a record of a finished design.
It had a great deal of potential, pity the company folded because with a
bit
more work it could have been an excellent product. The one bit I really
HATED was the schematic part.
That was truly awful :-(

Indeed it is, especially for quick tests of circuits or for
prototyping.

I managed to find a copy of this, but I'm not that impressed with it.
My main gripe is that it won't let me put components along the length
of
the board, e.g. put a resistor "horizontally" in your figure,
with a
hole cut under it to separate the two ends - something I often do in
stripboard layouts.
It's sometimes handy to put things at other angles as well, but the
program just doesn't seem to allow it. Everything has to be lined
up
"vertically" across the tracks :{
Do you know if there's any way to get the program to allow this kind of
layout, or even use it itself during design? If it can't I think
I'll
stick to doing layouts by hand.
