I actually have one of these ! They are as
you say set to open when the
height of the water above the bath plug reaches a certain level and they
do
work. It would be very difficult to flood a bath with one of these
installed.
My problem was that they have a substantial
hysteresis - once they trip
open they then empty to about half level before closing again. What I
found
was that I filled the bath - no problem - but when I got in and the
level
rose (ummm quite a bit) then it emptied it until I was sitting in a
puddle.
Very irritating.
