It was more the valve amps typically associated with high end music
systems than the ESLs that I was singling out for unsuitablity in
HC...I do think a centre speaker is wise though - if you were to look
at a level meter across a 5.1 mix, it is very fair to say that 50% of
the mix is right there, as that is where the huge majority of the
dialogue, and the mono & above 120hz component of FX & music go too. 
I'm sure it still does sound pretty sweet though..just he'd get so much
more with just one more ESL...:-)

For the record, the best sounding system I ever heard outside a studio
was a Meridian stereo thing, with those active floor-standers with four
small drivers in them. Incredibly tight & stupendous presence. Day to
day, my genelecs do quite well...if only I could take 'em home :-)
