I have heard of people using electric screwdrivers to open/close
blinds, which no longer seem to come with cords for this purpose but a
rod which rotates: you rotate this with the screwdriver.

For curtains, what we need is a motor that would clasp the a curtain
cord and rotate it. There is an x10 switch especially for a motor for
this purpose. I imagine it is just a switch that has a momentary
action and that you set how long it stays on for, and it must also
allow for polarity switching too I guess. Am I right? Anyway, the hard
part seems to be finding a motor that you can use with it!
