RE: PCB Design Software
I use a combination of Seetrax Ranger XL www.seetrax.com and Protel
99SE
www.protel.com, depending on the age of the design/what I'm trying to
do.
Both hideously expensive packages, but then again, it's what I do for a
living :o)
Perhaps it's because I've used it for longer, but I find Ranger XL more
friendly than Protel, but not as powerful. Protel includes
schematic
simulation (if you can get it to run - I'm still fighting with it),
letting
you try your design before you've touched a soldering iron.
However, even at this price bracket, they don't directly produce .pdf
files
- we use Acrobat Distiller and, basically, print from the PCB software
to
the "PDF Writer" printer.
For the home user, Seetrax have a "lower-spec'd" version of
RangerXL called
Ranger2 which, according to their web site, is going for 60 pounds.
I've
used Ranger 2 at home for some years now and love it.

Subject: [ukha_d] PCB Design Software
Hi All,
Whilst using Eagle to play with designs for Rabbit board, I became aware
of some it's shortcommings, mainly inabilty to produce PDF's.
I'd be curious to know what people are using for PCB software out there
?
Eagle for me was good, as I can also run it at work under Linux, I do
however no see this as a requirement for future software.
Some idea of cost, and features would also be useful, also are pin
libraires available for PIC,AVR, and RABBIT ?
Thanks
Stuart
