According to Sky, the move is in response to consumer demand and will
see Sky Box Office, Sky Movies and Sky One giving output the widescreen
treatment on digital satellite.
Sky Box Office is set to premiere 18 new titles in widescreen including
Ocean's Eleven, Panic Room, The Scorpion King, Bend It Like Beckham and
Ice Age.
This summer will also see the expansion of widescreen movies across all
Sky Movies channels and the introduction of widescreen on Sky One and
Sky One Mix.
Dawn Airey, managing director at Sky Networks, said: "In response to
customer demand and Sky's strategic positioning, aiming to offer the
most advanced TV platform, we are increasing the widescreen output for
Sky Box Office bringing viewers even closer to the cinema experience in
their home.
"Further widescreen broadcasts across Sky Movies and Sky One will be
forthcoming throughout 2003."
Viewers will be able to identify which programmes are broadcast in
widescreen by the letter 'W' which will appear on the information panel
when they press the 'i' button on their Sky remote control.
