In the end that’s pretty much what I did. Its not ideal because
sometimes the Tivo ends up with ‘now playing’ selected and
other times
it ends up within the ‘now playing’ page. This however is not
a
problem.

One thing that came to mind as to why you would want to put the Tivo in
standby is that otherwise it would be recording to disk 24/7 (ie
recording the current channel for time-shifting). This cannot be good
for the longevity of the disk….

I just have a pronto macro to:-

Send Tivo - Tivo (puts Tivo in now playing)
Send 1 to the TV (putting it in tuner mode on channel 1)
Send Tivo input to amp (discrete)
Send Aux to TV (Tivo is on Aux 1 so it goes there... any other inputs I
send Aux multiple times)
