Not OT at all - this is core Home Automation stuff.

X-10 is the technology sir requires. The "not very nice looking"
way
to do what you want would be to get an "Appliance module" per
device
you want to on-off control...

... and an IR receiver module (which you can program your Pronto to
use.)

Appliance module at: http://www.simplyautomate.com/productDisplay.asp?
prodId=3389&Affiliate=633

IR module at: http://www.simplyautomate.com/productDisplay.asp?
prodId=3428&Affiliate=633

X10 is a bit like a train set - you start with a couple of bits, and
a year later discover you've bought 40 :-)

Regards,

Mark

mains lead at Maplin which detects that a master socket is off and
cuts power to the slaves, but ..

I could turn off with my remote. I have a Pronto 950 (does IR and RF
