Perhaps you could write a script that silently checks if the number exists
using

http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk/info/
 ?

if not then perhaps give them a ring and see what they suggest? Everytime
I
have spoken to anyone at Co. house they have always been more than happy to
help :-)

validation

Does anyone know how I can validate the above without a manual process?

All I can find about company number is that they all appear to be 8 chars
long
:-(

There is an online form that will validate a VAT num for you, but I was
wondering if there was any kind of checksum in it or anything?

I am aware of the BIN list for validating sort codes, but the ones I have
seen
are by no means complete or easy to use.

I'd appreciate any help ...
