I knew that there must be some hidden pitfalls...
But how Graham is sorting that through Home Automator?
And because you are using KVM approach from server, you can still use
applications directly, not via starting the browser.
It's still simpler, because you can use all the existing applications.

Biggest problem with the web-browser approach is the problem of
push.
There is no practical way to force the browser screen to update
in
real time driven from the server side. Take the caller-id
scenario,
for example - you want to know the *second* a call comes in who
it's
from. This can't be done using a plain-vanilla browser in a user
friendly and responsive way.
It can be done using a Java applet, but if you're jumping to
that
level of complexity, you'd be better served by a dedicated
device
IMHO.
