Day/night camera - not switching to night mode

Hi

I have two of these cameras (http://www.letsautomate.com/10741.cfm?),
purchased from letsautomate. The quality, in daylight, is
outstanding. If I put one under my desk, it switches the IR on and,
again, the quality is great. Super little camera and highly
recommended for daylight use.

They have now been installed, one at the top of my house (1), under
the eaves, the second in the porch near the front door (2). I only
have number one working at the moment, after I shorted the
transformer when the power cable got pinched in some trunking.

Question 1: Can these transformers be repaired? (transformer shown on
the bottom of the letasutomate page above). If there's a fuse inside,
it seems a bit silly to have to throw it away and buy another one.
Getting the bolts out though is another problem!

I have a standard sodium street light outside my house on the other
side of the road. The camera is pointing down onto my drive. It does
not switch over to B&W mode and so the picture at night is absolutely
rubbish. I can just about make out the outline of the boot of my car.
The problem is the same with the other camera.

Question 2: Has anybody else had this problem and is there anything I
can do? I do have security lighting with PIR, but clearly I want to
also record any activity that occurs after the lights go out.

Clearly, a B&W camera would not have this problem, but these
Day/Night cameras are supposed to switch to B&W at night.

Cheers

Andrew
