My Refurbished Tivo from Dixons failed to even run guided setup properly. All the steps and options were mixed up, Tivo support reckoned it had American software on it ?
I went though the returns procedure but I asked about stock availability and they had none. I decided a dead Tivo was better than no Tivo so put in the original disks from my existing Tivo and all is good now.

I was careful in lifting the warranty seal in case it was a hardware problem, but it will getting a disk upgrade soon anyway.

  Hmmm...

  Danger Will Robinson...

My Tivo arrived (from Dixons Online) on the 23rd, (whilst I was away), and
was left with the neighbour. I arrived home last night, the neighbour bought
it round, and I unpacked it & just did a quick contents check.

Started to set it up today, - the box froze completely during the guided
setup, Tivo help desk said power-cycle it & start again.

One power cycle later, I am stuck with a Tivo that just cycles endlessly
between the "Welcome, Powering up..." screen, and the "Nearly there, just a
  few more seconds...." screen.

Call to Tivo, - "Hardware fault, probably a dead disk drive, return it to
  the dealer for replacement"...

Call to Dixons, helpdesk person mentioned a 14-day time limit for something
or other... - Didn't bother to press about this, as it didn't affect me as
I'm within 14 days anyway, but she definately checked the recorded delivery
date, whilst muttering on about "company policy" and "14 days"....

Fortunately, I don't have to argue the toss about replacement, but if there
is some bizarre 14-day limited replacement policy, then I'd advise you soak
test your machine for a while before you get outside of it. - Mine ran for
about 90 minutes before the disk failed.

It will be *at least* a week before I get a replacement, as the deceased
article has to be returned, and only then will the replacement be
dispatched. I can't return it until I receive a pre-pay shipping docket for
securicor that won't even get mailed out to me until Monday (if I'm lucky!)

  B***TARDS!

Still, trying to find a bright side to look at, I suppose it means I have a
week to order up a bigger hard disk, and possibly even get the TivoWeb
  module? (Des, any chance?)
