RE: [OT] Tivo help from the guru's
Robert,
I've done what you suggested successfully in the past with modems and
fax
machines, that's why I gave it a try.
I only thought of it this morning and didn't have long to play so I was
planning on trying the again later.
Luckily the settings in the dialing properties are set to off - It's
not
being able to edit them that makes me think that the SW is knackered.
I dialled UUNET and got a modem going through different negotiation
speeds,
but it seemed that as soon as the tivo started to dial the I got the
unobtainable beep,
I'm not really sure why that is, but It can't hurt trying again over
the
weekend.

I pressume TIVO's modem expects a dial-tone before it starts dialing
its
number. If not, surley you could dial the UUNET number manually what
for an
answer then quickly get TIVO to dial its number, which will be ignored,
and
negioate normally. If not the question is how you could fool TIVO
into
thinking its got a dial tone, then switching over. Maybe Keith would
have a
cunning plan, if not back to dixons, or try the TIVO web forums.
Once its got through the whole setup maybe it will let you change the
number. Then again maybe the setup dials a few times?
Good luck.
