If you've got some time on your hands another option is to visit a few
auction houses. Offices and businesses are regularly stripped by
auction
companies due to re-locates and more often insolvencies/bankruptcies,
more often than not you will find a rack or two languishing in the
corner of an auction house. Worth a few phone calls to some auction
houses as they often remain unsold. A 42" rack with doors and
glass
front will on average make between =A350-=A3100 in my experience.
Remember<=
BR>
you will have to get it home!
Once you've got one you then want it to look darn pretty right? Well
the
next step is to strip your new purchase down (Most are like a big
mechano set!) Give it a good clean and then find a local powder coating
company to re-coat it (Satin black looks very good but any colour you
like can be done!) should set you back no more than =A3150 (Provided
you
dangle cash!) and when done it will look like you just took it out of
the box.
This is the route I took and it looks a treat. Just a shame SWMBO hates
it so much :-( She calls it the tardis!
P.S. This is also a very good source for a cheap telephone pbx for your
house. But just be wary that you have no opportunity to test before
buying.
P.P.S. Thanks to Barry (AKA Bazzil Brush) a telecoms friend of mine who
recons a lot of auction kit for giving me the tip originally. The
"Del=
l
Boy" of telecoms in Devon!
Many thanks
Rob Mouser

My mate with the cabling company has some racks in stock for around 250
quid - they are 42U high, with doors all round, footprint is 600 x 800
mm. He also has patch panels and cable. Cabling business has
