Andy,

Still trying to catch up on old mail, apologies for the delay.

I bought one of these from Argos last year. It was pretty cheap so it won't= be up to hard, full time use but was more than adequate for lifting my flo= orboards (8' by 2' chipboard sheets). I cut the tongue off the 3 edges and = either levered out the nails (a tack lifter and/or claw hammer), or let the= m pull through the board and replaced with screws afterwards. The saw was o= nly 30 quid and saved me a huge amount of effort. With a hand saw you can r= isk cutting mains cables underneath the floorboards. With the circular saw = you can set the depth to *just* greater than the thickness of the board. If= you do get a power saw, please be careful; RCD, goggles / glasses and earp= lugs are a must :-)

The other mighty-useful tool was a padsaw. I bought a Stanley (i.e. the bra= nd) knife and it came with a 8"-ish wood saw and a 6"-ish metal s= aw (they fit in like the regular blades). It's ideal for tight spaces and t= rimming already-fitted carpet gripper.

Pictures of my cabling runs are in the Yahoo photos area:
