The problem with the 100ohm resistor is that it can severely decrease the
video level.
Take into consideration that the input impendance is around 75ohm, so an
100ohm resistor can decrease the signal more than two times.

Exactly the same way if its like the one I got from Maplin.
For S-Video to Composite I put a 470pF and 100 ohms in series from
Chroma to Luma and the Luma signal then becomes composite.
The same method can be used to feed a composite signal into an
S-
Video input but as Dan points out it isnt that simple. To do it
properly requires filters.
Although the Capacitor/Resistor method will give a colour picture
into an S-Video input there will be all sorts of patterning or
softening of the picture and it will be inferior to the original
Composite signal.
The only justifiable reason for doing passive Composite to S-Video
conversion is if you only have an S-Video input available and the
source is composite only.
