Newbie seeks pointers

Hi all,

I think what I'm trying to do should be fairly simple, so apologies
if I'm insulting anyone's intelligence!!

I'd like to connect a fan and a temperature senser to my PC so that
I can keep cool over the summer. I've found a supplier of
thermistors that attach to a games port, how do I use this
information to control a mains powered fan? Thanks for your help.
