Dan,

Actually, using different ports is a bad idea.

A good number of UKHAers work for employers / clients where internet
access is limited to port 80.

As such, running everything over port 80 and virtual hosting works,
in the real world, much better than using PAT.

Alas, not all of us have office locations which have FULL internet
access :-(
