I have replaced my USB frog with a D-Link DSL-604+ wireless ADSL router
and have a D-Link DWL-650+ card in the laptop. These operate at 22Mbps.
In the ePods I have a Agere(?) Silver card and a Netgear compact-flash
something-of-other in the iPAQ. These operate at 11Mbps (at the same
time as the laptop running at 22Mbps).

Works just fine.

Does he have XP on the laptop? If not, he should do.

Steve
