Re: xAP Update

Patrick & I have had a few very brief discussions around this.

One potential problem we identified is trying to establish a mechanism for
message passing between different Homeseer plugins, especially in the light
of a recent architectural change in Homeseer that prevents plugins being
informed of changes to devices not owned by that plugin...

(Previously, an IO call was raised in Homeseer whenever a Homeseer device
action occurred, this IO call was passed to all installed plugins, - now
however, the IO call is passed only to the plugin that owns the device that
changed).

The hope was (is) to produce a generic xAP plugin for Homeseer that could
provide a framework to which other plugins could subscribe, thus
xAP-enabling all plugins, as well as Homeseer itself. As Homeseer plugins
already exist for many hardware and sofware devices, including Comfort,
Weather stations, 1-Wire nets, MSN Messenger, and so on... these would all
then be able to be made xAP-aware...

We could just expose a set of methods & properties that other plugins
could
use to TX & RX xAP messages, but this would obviously require
modification
to the source code of all other plugins in order for them to become xAP
enabled. I would prefer (if possible) to "intercept" the
communications
between Homeseer and its plugins and use a rules engine to determine if the
events should be converted into xAP messages for transmission...

Pie in the sky at the moment though....

Must go, SWMBO will be waiting, but I'm keen to help out on this one...
