Hi Stuart,

You might find that at 8m there will be some noise, but some suitable
software on the micro should handle that. Not the best way though.

I know I keep banging on about it, but have you considered using CAN bus to
link your systems together? I am currently running CAN bus on both CAT5e
and
4 core alarm cable and it works a treat. I run the bus at 125kbps and this
allows me a max link distance of 500m which is more than I will ever need.

As you are a PIC man yourself, there is a good selection of PIC devices
with
CAN already built in. That and a simple MCP2551 transceiver is all you need
for a non-isolated CAN bus interface. A couple of 4N137's and some
resistors
and you would have an isolated CAN interface but the cost of the DC-DC
converter certainly bumps it up. Not really necessary with low voltage
anyway.

As a matter of interest, which of the Qprox sensors are you looking at? I
have a couple of QT160's and a QT60040 sensor IC's.

Regards
Dave...

About to start dev work on remote Qprox sensors linked to a PIC micro by
cat5e
cabling, upto say 8m away. The sensor will communicate by simple 1/0, high
or
low. Need to test for noise problems - or has anyone done any experiments
already.

Stuart
