Your power supply isn't regulated (or isn't well enough regulated)
(or) If the Serial Data (pin2) is connected to 5v, the VFD goes into
test mode, and rolls continuously - depends if it's garbage, or the
character set being displayed.
Witness the benefit of buying one from someone who will give you the
full datasheet ;)

I have managed to get hold of a 2x40 serial (RS232) VFD display (part
CU40026SCPB-T24A) but am having some trouble getting it to work properly

I know some of you have displays like this, so was hoping someone might

able to get me on track...
The display is in its default jumper configuration and is hooked up
directly
to a PC com port. The trouble is that I get continuous garbage on the
display. This happens whether port is open or not
Any ideas what's up?
