Hi Adrian

I'd recommend you use the HNS one, if you're comparing the 3 mentioned
below. We haven't used Wiselan as I wasn't entirely happy with the
product and the guy who started/owned Wiselan had some apparent
"history". I hadn't heard of Homemaster but after a quick check,
it
would appear to the Cris by Aldous Systems (or certainly very similar).
It's not a bad solution but we found the HNS to give better flexibility.

Space wise - this depends on how many patch panels you need, but we find
it big enough most times to house a router below the patch panels. So
you could fit a combined wireless router on the LHS, or use the 6U space
on the RHS. Your 24 outlets will only take 3U space on the LHS, so you
should be ok.

Regarding the video modules - HNS and Wiselan both use Labgear units,
and I'm not sure what make the Aldous ones use. The Labgear ones allow
for combining of 2 UHF, 1 Sat IF, 1 FM, 1 DAB, and then distributing the
return feed to 6+ outlets.

HTH

Steve

Subject: [ukha_d] First post - which patch panel

Hi,

This is my first post to the ukha_d list.

I'm in the process of installing a home network (CAT5e, CT100) and am
looking for the best patch panel solution. I potentially have space for
a standard wall mount comms cabinet but like the compactness of some of
the home units (e.g. HNS, Wiselan, Homemaster). I need about 24+ CAT5e
ports and ideally 8 TV points.

My main question with these units is what space do they have for
wireless router and broadband modem? Also, what is the difference if any

in the video distribution modules between these units.

thanks

Adrian
