Network probs

I've just upgraded my Netgear ADSL router 824 to a 834g, and I'm now having
problems connecting to TiVo.  I've got an el cheapo switch in the lounge
(with TiVo, Rio, Netgem), and the Netgear router upstairs.  Everything
worked fine with the old router, but now when I ping (that's the extent of
my network diagnostic skills) any of the stuff downstairs, I get a loss
rate
of 50%+.

Is it possible that the switch isn't compatible with the router?
