RE: [OT] ADSL Lightning/Surge Suppression

The telephone line surge suppressor in my APC UPS works just fine with my
ADSL line.

A recent power outage took out my ADSL router, so I've just bought an APC
Back UPS Pro 650VA for =A375+VAT from CPC. Considering last time I bought

of these, it cost me about =A3275, I'm quite pleased.

While I was at it, I also bought a cheap Trust 500VA UPS (=A325 + VAT from
CPC) and an APC Back UPS ES 350 (which is kind of like a chunky mains
distribution board, Amazon =A355). The Trust one is protecting my PABX

tends to lost it's internal clock at the slightest electrical provocation.

I
wouldn't use it for a PC, though, because it doesn't have a comms link.

The APC 650VA was recognised automatically by XP and the UPS service
configured to provide automated shutdown. It was quite a surprise because
the Back UPS Pro has been around for about 7 years and has a serial
connection to the PC, not USB.

Given the cost, I'd seriously consider a UPS, if I were you - most seem to
come with telephone line protection.
