The advantage of low voltage halogens over mains halogens is that
the light emitted is whiter, and the beam focus tighter, due to the
smaller dimensions of the filament.

You can run multiple luminaires off one transformer, usually star-
wired from each lamp to the transformer.  The transformer must be
powerful enough for the combined load, ir 5 x 50 watt bulbs need a
250watt transformer.  And the wiring between the transformer and the
lamps must be of sufficient cross sectional area to ensure you dont
get excessive voltage drop.
