Is this source code, or are we taling other files here? For source
code you could look at something like Subversion or CVS.

If it's mainly binary files (word docs, mp3's etc) I'd consider
something like a USB hdd. I know you don't want to use them, but if
you're going to client sites etc, what happens when there is no net
connection? What happens when you leave?
