RE: Turn Laptop into an extra monitor for your PC

On a slightly different note... does anyone know of any software which will
extend your desktop onto another monitor, using only ONE graphics card?

I have a Toshiba Tecra 9100 which doesn't support dual monitors natively
(most new ones do) and am trying to find a software solution... this
maxivista looks close, as it adds a graphics driver... but I don't want to
send the signal over the network to another pc... just a monitor about
three
inches away!

On another note, has anyone tried maxivista's performance over a relatively
slow WAN? (I "think" our connection to Oz is 2Mbps)

Thanks

paul

Synergy is a great program, but it doesn't do the same thing as
MaxiVista. Maxivista uses another PC as an additional monitor, Synergy
controls two of more computers with the same mouse and keyboard, but
with their own displays.

I use Synergy to control my laptop which sits next to my desktop, and by
moving the mouse cursor left, it disappears from the desktop monitor and
appears on the Laptop monitor. Keyboard and mouse actions go to the
computer that has the mouse. Cut and paste is supported.

I also have a KVM for switching other computers to the main display and
use VNC for remote computers and sometimes to get the displays on the
same screen.

It can get very confusing, especially if I start up a VMWare virtual
machine or two as well.
