Re: ADSL - Firewalls - Routers
Hi Mark,
I was looking at the Vigor as well (we are enabled on 18 March - more to
do=
with a partnership between BT & RDA than my efforts as co-ordinator,
but i=
ts the result that matters!!).=20
Why did your friend suggest waiting? I know there is an updated version
of=
the 2600V available later in 2004 - or are there other reasons?

Subject: [ukha_d] ADSL - Firewalls - Routers
In anticipation of our exchange triggering soon I'm starting to look
seriously at the hardware/software options.
I like the sound of the Vigor VoIP enabled router, but a friend in the
business has suggested that I wait a generation or two before buying one =
of
these.
In the meantime I have the choise of a el cheapo =A340 router that some o=
f my
mates have bought, or I have a 1U server (with Mini-itx board) which
currently shares the ISDN (midband) round the PCs in the house - whats th=
e
best router/firewall package I could put on this? All my experience is
Windows but willing to try eSmith or something relatively idiot proof. I
presume I need to add a second NIC to my 1U machine (there's one slot
available on a rider card) to use it as a firewall?
Help! :)
Thanks
M.
