Re: completely OT, Combi Boiler help/advice

Jonathan,

What you describe is normal for a Combi boiler. The boiler heats water as
it
flows through it, but as there is no tank(normally) to hold the heated
water
it is heated as it flows to the tap. In a system where there is a hot
water
tank you heat water that is then put into the tank and the bath is filled
>from
incoming water but at some point the flow is beyond the capability of the
boiler, so it does not keep pace with the flow. Consequently the temp at
the
tap drops. Turn the tap down reduces the flow, the Combi keeps up and the
water gets hot again.

How can you get around it:
1: Turn the tap down to reduce the flow.
2: Get a Combi with a higher rating / flow rating
3: Get a system with a tank
4: Get the girlfriend to take showers

I have two combis, with different flows, one is a condensing boiler and has
a
small internal holding tank where it can store preheated water (only about
10
ltrs I think). You can notice the difference in the specs. One has a
lowere
heat rating and flow rate than the other and in the bigger one has the
internal tank, when you set it to hold hot water in the tank you can see
the
difference again.

BTW, not a heating engineer, just a user, so hope this makes sense, sure
somebody will be able to correct my technical details.
