Vigor 2600 (which is an ADSL router with built in 4 port switch - plug
into ADSL socket and plug into PC, simple as that!) is *highly*
recommended by many people on the list. The vanilla 2600 is £140.99 from
www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk and is what I use, but there are several
different configs available, including ISDN backup, 54G Wi-Fi and VOIP
FXS in varying configurations.

I'm not totally sure what options you'd be looking at for
"timeout", but
if you're using a P2P app, via the netgear wap, that may have the number
of connections issues that the netgear ADSL routers have.
