My local pet/reptile shops didn't have any ants, plus I only want about a
dozen!   Like everyone else, we have zillions of the critters every summer,
but they've all gone to their winter retreat!

Tried your local pet shop? You can buy commercial ant farms sets off
the shelf apparently, not sure if that is with ants included or not
though.

Pets shops in Chiswick and Camden [Parkway], London are said to be
able to supply black ants, not tried myself. I have the addresses
somewhere.  Now if you were after leaf-cutter-ants from Trinidad I
know a bit more...
