I thought your problem was caused by the Highpoint card rather than the
ext3
volume that it contained?
I can understand your frustration at losing data but if it's critical then
it sould be backed up - hardware can (and does) fail. We had a few weeks
recently at L.A. of the database server going down - it was using a
hardware
SCSI RAID controller and we had a spare controller and spare drives etc. in
case something went down. As it was we couldn't fix the fault by either
replacing the drive which was flagged as faulty or replacing the controller
card so we ended up having to revert to the daily backup of the
"critical"
data and accept the loss of the stuff that had been deemed
"non-critical"
and therefore not included in the scheduled backups.
If it's important then it should be backed up regularly ... we all know
that. :-(
