Re: Broadband - Eclipse just changed everything!!

What you dont mention is the pricing

Home 250 set up - £58.75 monthly - £17.99
Home 500 set up - £58.75 monthly - £23.95
Home 1000 set up - £58.75 monthly - £37.95

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----
flexing
NOTE: These hourly rates ONLY apply when your connection is flexed up
to a higher speed
Committed rate up to 500 up to 1000 up to 2000
Home 250 5p per hour 14p per hour -
Home 500 - 9p per hour -
Home 1000 - - -

Which although is a nice idea, is not particularly cheap. Personally it
appears to be another form of tarrif to encourage users to spend more on
their broadband. Because as you well know, most people (especially with
kids) will max out their broadband conections quite regularly and instead
of
the expected £23 bill for your broadband you could end up with £70 per
month
which is more expensive than some 2mb connections.

Subject: [ukha_d] Broadband - Eclipse just changed everything!!

We recommend Eclipse (all the time) and use them ourselves - the new
broadband service, however, blows the competition out of the water.

"FLEX Broadband uniquely allows users to change the speed of their
connection at the touch of a button - for an hour, a week or permanently,
without any regrading fee, thus enabling them to adjust their connection to
evolve as their needs change and expand.

Jomie Carmichael, co-founder and director of Eclipse Internet, winner of
the
ISPAs Best Business Broadband Provider award in 2003, said of the new
products, "Recent months have seen a plethora of new services launched
from
competitors in an effort to drive down the cost and increase take-up of
broadband. Disappointingly, this has resulted in a worrying trend towards
restrictive services that penalise end-users for high usage.

Eclipse believes that Broadband is not about restricting or constraining
users - it's about having freedom to explore, discover and experience the
Internet at faster, and faster speeds. We feel that FLEX Broadband will
revolutionise the market and help achieve the Government's vision of a
"Broadband Britain"'.

The FLEX Broadband range gives users the freedom to set the speed of their
connection to suit their needs - slower for email downloads and faster for
large file downloads, such as music and video. New broadband users
migrating from slow dial-up services can start with the new FLEX 250
service
and then move to a higher speed as their requirements change - without the
additional cost of regrading or changing service provider.

Carmichael added: "FLEX Broadband is revolutionary, offering instant
connection speed increases up to 2Mbps at the touch of a button, for as
little or as long as the user needs it them. Everyone at Eclipse Internet
is extremely excited about the new FLEX services and the direction the
company is taking."

Pretty jaw-dropping - you could, if you wished, sign up for the £17 a month
256k service, then "flex" up to 1Mbps for a couple of hours to
download some
stuff - then drop back again when you are finished.

The only catch - existing customer's can't regrade to the Flex packages
*yet* that's coming soon. For anyone considering moving to broadband, you
just got the best reasons yet. Full FAQ is here:
