Moving the Electrical ConsumerUnit

The consumer unit for the house is currently in the hall and I intend
moving it very quickly to the garage, however this sparks a couple of
questions

1.	Is there a maximum length of cable between the electric meter
and the consumer unit?? If so what is it??

2. Is this something I am allowed to do myself or do I need the
Electricity board in to do it??

3 What Size Cable do I need to purchase,/ does it need to
armoured?? I would expect distance to be about 30ft

Cheers

Paul
