Could you not implement this by changing the lock portion actually attached
to the door frame, like they do with intercom systems (I have seen this
done
with mortice locks in the past).

That way the insurance company can't object as you still have a standard 5
lever mortice lock as supplied by Yale / Union etc and after all these
things are used in commercial buildings all of the time
